The Striving to Improve Series targets students who, for whatever reason, are struggling to keep up with their peers. The activities in the books are designed to prevent students from regressing any further at school. The tasks are based on a modified curriculum so that students can work at their own pace and without constant supervision from the teacher.
This book, Fractions, is focused on the Number and Algebra Strand of the Australian Curriculum for lower ability students and those who need further opportunity to consolidate these core areas in mathematics. The section entitled Understanding Fractions enables students to re-encounter ideas of equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, improper fraction, mixed numerals and comparing fractions. The section entitled Calculating With Fractions walks students through the four core calculations.
These activities are a useful way to scaffold a new unit of Mathematics and will help build confidence for lower ability students to attempt more challenging problems at their year level. The activities are designed to guide student learning with minimal input from the teacher and there is a strong emphasis on process and understanding.The activities can be used for individual students needing further consolidation in a mainstream classroom or as instructional worksheets for a whole class of lower ability students. The activities are tied to Curriculum Links in the Australian Curriculum ranging from grade levels of Year 4 through to Year 7 and are appropriate for students requiring extra support in Years 7, 8 and 9.
This is a Photocopy Master E-book (52 pages) and activity pages may be photocopied for use in the classroom.

This book, Integers, is focused on the Number and Algebra Strand of the Australian Curriculum for lower ability students and those who need further opportunity to consolidate these core areas in mathematics.
The section entitled Understanding Integers enables students to reencounter ideas of place value, rounding, estimation, factors, multiples and the concept of a directed number.
The section entitled Calculating With Integers walks students through the four core calculations. Students explore addition and subtraction with two and three digit sums and can apply what they have learned to some real life application problems. Similarly, students explore the various levels of multiplication and division before applying them to a variety of applications.
Each section provides students with the opportunity to consolidate written and mental methods of calculation, with an emphasis on process and understanding. The activities can be used for individual students needing further consolidation in a mainstream classroom or as instructional worksheets for a whole class of lower ability students. 'Maths Rescue 3 – Number: Applications' is the third book in the Maths Rescue series. The focus of the series is on the reinforcement of “the basics” in maths, as well as activities aimed at developing understanding of mathematics concepts. Students with Specific Learning Difficulties experience a range of problems with their academic learning. These problems include word recognition and comprehension; coping with pages that are too cluttered and with too many differing requirements; being able to sequence, recall and apply strategies in abstract situations; striving to process information while working to meet deadlines and having trouble with personal organization with their schoolwork.
While the books in this series are designed for students with learning difficulties, they can be used as a simple and straightforward introduction to concepts or a reinforcement of mathematical strategies for the whole class. The books follow a basic format, with each activity usually containing a choice of two worksheets to cater for a range of ability levels. Activities in the series are linked to National Mathematics Curriculum Attainment Targets.
Each book contains:
Information on Specific Learning Difficulties: Information from a variety of referenced sources including online literature from recognised organisations. Includes descriptions of the various learning difficulties and ideas for strategies in the classroom and at home;
Student Lifesavers: Clearly presented charts designed as a “basic facts” reference for students who are working though more difficult maths concepts;
“Parent Power” Pages: Informative pages for parents on each mathematical unit. These pages include terminology, mathematical strategies, examples and reinforcement ideas for the home and community;
Progress Charts: Students can keep an ongoing record of their homework achievements.
This is a Photocopy Master ebook (50 pages) and activity pages may be photocopied for use in the classroom. Our ebooks are in pdf format.

'Life Skills: Bullying and Conflict' addresses bullying tactics and identifies strategies for both the school and community. Realistic scenarios are used as a starting point for promoting discussion and personal learning experiences specific to the type of bullying that may be occurring, whether it be verbal, social, psychological or physical.
Opportunities are given for students to express ideas and feelings through role-play, brainstorms and independent enquiry. 'Life Skills: Bullying and Conflict' also contains an extensive section on dealing with conflict at school, at home or in the community. Strategies include using a problem solving approach to resolve conflicts, with several examples highlighted through the use of discussion cards which aim to consolidate students’ understandings of these difficult concepts.
'The Life Skills' series was developed to equip the busy classroom teacher with practical and relevant ideas for enhancing essential life skills in individual students. This innovative four-book series aims to fill the gap between the frameworks set out by national bodies and the delivery of sensitive, yet meaningful, lessons in the everyday class. The materials are designed for middle to upper primary students, however, the ideas and information are appropriate for all school aged children.
Each book in this series contains extensive background notes for teachers, parents and students. Many sections contain annotated resource lists for multimedia, literature and general classroom resources. Extension ideas are given where possible and all activities are linked to student outcomes.

The Remedial Maths Series is designed to provide remediation in key areas of mathematics. The books are directed towards upper primary children requiring assistance with concepts incorporated in the final three years of the primary school mathematics curriculum.
'Remedial Fractions' explains the basic concepts of fractions, including the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. The activities are sequenced in line with standard syllabus structures, covering a number of stages as opposed to a straight year level, and will provide students with the opportunity to catch up on much-needed skills.
